Luca had his 5 year well visit yesterday. The day before, he had a fever, so we asked the doc to take his temperature and he still had a low grade fever. They checked his lungs because my niece Gabri just found out she had bronchitis and pneumonia. I would never had thought Gabri had that when she was over. She seemed like she had a cold b/c she had a runny nose and cough. The doctor said there was an area that he sounded like Luca was wheezing as he would breathe out. He gave Luca a breathing treatment at his appointment with some medicine to help clear it out. It did work, but he also gave Luca antibiotics for bronchitis. Luca doesn't have a runny nose or a cough. We took him home and gave him the medicine which was only one 1 teaspoon. That entire day he was really fatigued and would just want to lay on the couch. He finally took a nap after he asked me to lay with him. He woke up and was in a lot of pain that his stomach hurt. His temperature went up to103 and he started to vomit and have diarrhea. We looked at the side effects of the medicine and one of the effects was diarrhea and vomiting so we called his doctor because I felt like we should take him to the hospital. I never seen him so sick. The doctor told us to wait 1 1/2 hours for the tylenol to kick in and take down his temp. If his temp didn't go down then to head to the emergency room. He started to feel better within a half hour and his temperature kept going down. The doc also told us to give him a luke warm bath to help get his temp down. We put him in our tub because he likes the jacuzzi jets. We noticed he was starting to act like himself.
Olivia was bouncing off the walls all day yesterday while Luca was sick. She didn't want to eat dinner and asked us if she could go to bed. Corey noticed she had a temperature, too. So we gave her some Tylenol and put her to bed. She woke up several times in the middle of the night with the same symptoms as Luca, telling us her belly hurt and she had some diarrhea. They both missed school today. Luca is starting to feel better and Olivia still had a fever and I gave her some medicine and put her down for a nap. I hate seeing my kids so sick!
On a funny note, since the time change the kids typically wake up at 7am and now they wake up at 8am which means we have to rush to get to school, etc. The day of Luca's doctor appointment I had to wake him up because his appointment was at 9am. Olivia went in his room and said "Wake up, Luca! You have to go to the doctors and get a shot, and it's gonna hurt!" Way to wake him up and get him excited to go to his appointment Olivia! Had to write this for her top quotes section of her book!
Luca was in the 30th percentile for weight (although, he did lose some weight because he was sick so I don't feel it's too accurate). He was also in the lower 50th percentile for height.
